Malawi Union for Informal Sector (Mufis) has conducted a workshop on Leadership, Gender and Climate change at Yasini in Chiradzuru district.
The workshop was officially opened by the President of Mufis Ken Williams Mhango whom in his remarks firstly thanked members from the community for being organized and always work together.
However, Mhango also appreciated joined and working together with the community leaders like Village Heads as well as Group Village Heads.
He said that they were firstly joined by a Chief in Chitipa followed by another one from Chitipa as well but as of now, Chiradzuru is on the peak because there are even more Chiefs who are showing interest in working with the organization.
“I am urging you, community leaders to encourage your people to continue being organized as they are doing because if they are organized, it will be easy for us to push for their quality working places hence improving their living standards”, said Mhango.
Prisca Chilinjala, a member of Mufis who does a business of Thobwa and Freezes and was amongst the participants made the description of the workshop as more helpful since before the workshop, she was not able to calculate the capital and total income she got after the sales.
“They taught us that whenever we are doing a business we must be able to know the total income we are getting out of it. By doing so , it will be very easy for us to know if we are having any downfall in the business “, said Chilinjala.
Agreeing with Chilinjala, Mary Fundi, who makes soap from locally available materials said that before the workshop, she was just using money which she got after selling soap she makes without prior knowledge of how much she invested and how much she got as her profit.
“From now on, I am expecting my business to grow since I have knowledge which can help me grow my business and I will no longer be using money from my business without knowing if it is necessary to use it or not. As you can see I am a person with a disability so sometimes it is not easy for me to acquire business knowledge, but coming to this event gave me strength to continue with my productions”, said Fundi.
Meanwhile, Laston Kweluka said that what he had learnt from the workshop will help to the progression of his business as well as his living principles.
“I am urging other people, my fellow business men and women to join the union so that one day they will also have access to this type of education I got today. There are some people who have heard about Mufis but they don’t know what precisely it’s all about, so I encourage them to seek knowledge from us and join us to advance their livelihoods”, said Kweluka.
The workshop was graced with the presence of 37 participants including 7 community front-runners and 26 of the partakers were women representing 70 percent
This was a very powerful workshop ever conducted with more chiefs.
